Cow Patty Bingo

What is Cow Patty Bingo?

It's a pretty straight-forward idea.

Entrants receive a square of cardboard with their name on it. They are then let into an enclosed area of a field, with the instruction to, ‘Place your square anywhere in the field’!

With all the squares sold (for example 30 squares), a cow is let loose in the field.  Spectators wait ‘with bated breath’ until the cow splats, and the first piece of cardboard that gets hit by the cow pat is the winner - SIMPLE !

Running Cow Patty Bingo as a sales promotion

I first ran Cow Patty Bingo at a radio station in New Zealand over 25 years years ago.  It was so popular that it went on to become an annual event that is still running!

A 'Cow Patty Bingo' promotion is simple to execute.

Ideally, you want it to link it to a ‘no-brainer’ investment where a decision can quickly be made over the phone.  Ideally, use it as an upsell opportunity with existing, or regular advertisers.

So how does it work?

Here is the recommended telephone roadmap:

“Good morning John, I have a great idea I think youd want to be involved with!

Basically, for £/€xxx I will add xx number of commercials to your current schedule/next months schedule.  Plus, you will get a square of cardboard that you can place in our field wherever you want.

Youre probably wondering what’s with the card?  Well, you can place it in our field weve organised.  You put it where you like, if Daisy ‘does her business’ on your square, you winIt's Cow Patty Bingo ... are you in?!

Excellent, please reply to the email I am about to send you to confirm your participation. It's going to be a real laugh, and we are expecting at least 30 businesses to be involved ... we are also going to pay for lunch… no, it will not be beef!  I’m going to email you now."

Think about this, if it was a simple £/€250 pounds and you sold 30 on a telephone campaign, you’ll write £/€7,500.  Also, think of the PR - remember people buy from people they like, and it’s ideas that clients most easily buy into.  We made plenty of sales with ideas like this.

Do something different. Stand out from the crowd!

Run Cow Patty Bingo as an audience promotion & get it sponsored!

Give your audience the opportunity to win their piece of cardboard - even better, ask local businesses to pay £xxx for their part.  Make it a charity event if need be, but be sure to make revenue from it, even if it is just a short-term sponsorship!
